As a health professional, from your observations, what role does EBV play in the development of health problems or pathologies?
EBV plays an important role. It can be the source of several diseases and sometimes it is not detected directly. There has to be a visible disease such as autoimmune disease to go for EBV serology.
Can you tell us about a particular clinical case in which EBV was involved?
I have a patient who has had alopecia for several years. She lost her hair and eyelashes and for the last 2 years she has not had a hair. She had a lymphocyte typing and EBV serology which was positive.
What symptoms or clinical pictures should alert you?
Autoimmune disease
What tools do you use to detect EBV?
Serology
What EBV-associated pathology have you ever encountered?
Covid-Long, Alopecia, autoimmune disease
What treatment strategy do you use for EBV?
In my clinical case, I advised her to use micro-immunotherapy, with mycotherapy and micronutrition.
Within 6 months, her hair is growing back. She still has places on her scalp that are hairless but within one-two months it will fill in.
What do you want to say to your colleagues about EBV?
As soon as there is an autoimmune disease, consider testing for EBV.
Why do I think it is important to educate patients? What should they be told about EBV?
Although sometimes there is no fever or pimple, it would be good to do serology almost every time because you never know. Serology is not expensive. At least in Germany π
Some patients discover EBV after months or even years of medical wandering. How can we get out of this situation?
Micro-immunotherapy, mycotherapy, diet, micronutrition. EBV does not occur alone in this case, but is always linked to some other disease.
What message would I like to send to the scientific community, to Research?
Investigate the link between EBV and autoimmune diseases (e.g. alopecia, psoriasis)
